National Championship 2009/10

Old-fashioned way
After Vítor Gonçalves, Mário Wilson and Toni, Jorge Jesus became the fourth Portuguese manager to win a National title for the Club. By his hand the success of the old times returned, as well as the emotion of great hammerings. In 14 of 30 played matches, the team scored three or more goals and, in eight of them, won with a difference equal or over four goals. Besides FC Porto, who tried to win the title until the very end, Sporting de Braga was Benfica’s main opponent. The title was immensely celebrated in the last match, after a 2-1 triumph, at Luz, over Rio Ave. Paraguayan Óscar Cardozo, with 26 goals, was the best scorer of the competition.
