Impressive comeback!
Benfica regained the National Championship, after a brilliant second round: 16 wins and one tie. Manager Bruno Lage took over the team on matchday 16 and his impact was tremendous! The "red" team recovered from a seven-point disadvantage over the first-classified team, FC Porto. On matchday 24, Benfica defeated their rivals at Estádio do Dragão by 2-1 and took the lead of the competition, a position they held until the end. On the last matchday held at Estádio da Luz, Benfica received Santa Clara and after a victory by 4-1, the team celebrated its 37th National Championship title.
