Make sure you have the necessary equipment, such as a corkscrew, glasses and a decanter.
Use two different glasses, one more open and one more closed, to compare the aromas.
Pour the same amount into both glasses. Don't shake yet!

Step 2

Smell

Can you see teardrop-shaped filaments running down the walls of the glass? If the tear runs slowly, we could have a wine with a higher alcohol content. If it's faster, it's the opposite.
Hold the glass by the foot to avoid warming the wine with your hands.
Gently shake the glass in a circular motion to release the aromas and smell (with your nose inside the glass) carefully.
Identify the aromas: do you remember fruit, flowers or spices?

Step 3

Taste the wine

In whites, try to notice if you produce saliva, because the more you salivate, the more acidic (fresh) the wine becomes.
In red wines, if your mouth feels “stiff”, it's because of the tannins that cause astringency.
Take notes and imagine the wine on different occasions: where and with whom would it be perfect? Which glass did you like best and why?
The wine tasting is over, but the final exam remains: What food goes well with this wine?
