Football

The Brazilian, who turns 34 this Sunday, scored two more goals for Benfica and has reached 33 goals in the Liga NOS, but he made a point of sharing the laurels.

Jonas scored two more goals for Benfica, sealing the triumph (2-0) over V. Guimarães in gameweek 28 of the Liga NOS, and extended to 121 the total accurate strikes with an eagle on his chest, of which 98 were scored in the most important competition of Portuguese football.

"I am happy for the win and for the two goals. It was a difficult match, with a very balanced first half. We entered the game on the front foot, but the balanced the match from 20/25 minutes. In the second half Benfica completely dominated the match. We scored two goals and we won. We are all to be congratulated and we are all happy with the win", said Jonas, who was elected "Man of the match", to BTV.

In his 150th match with Benfica's jersey, Jonas, Europe's top scorer, raised to 33 the number of goals scored in the current edition of the Liga NOS, his best record in four years at the Club. We have to go back 28 years to find someone with so many goals scored for Benfica in a single championship: the Swedish Mats Magnusson, in 1989/90.

Is this the best Jonas? The number 10 replies: "I no going to say that it is the best Jonas. The team has been growing in this championship. We see the commitment of all the players, the dedication... We see Raúl coming in and helping. All the players are with that spirit and in this final stretch final of the competition it must be like that. I am very happy with the moment of the team moment", stated the Brazilian.

The goalscorer turns 34 this Sunday (April 1st) and received "present" from Raúl: a pass for the 2-0. "I was a good present in a beautiful play from Raúl, who is a quality player, an international, who has been helping us a lot", said Jonas.
