Nené put the ball twice in the back of the net at the home ground of the rival and Benfica got the win it needed the celebrate the second league title in a row. It happened precisely 42 years ago.

On May 23, 1976, Benfica played the 29th and penultimate round o the Championship against Sporting, at Estádio José Alvalade, with the goal of winning the national title. The match whistled by Nemésio de Castro was very balanced until at 81’, a perfect cross from Artur allowed Nené to scored the first goal from the reds.

Four minutes later (88'), Vítor Baptista offered a goal to Rui Jordão (top scorer of the Championship in the 1975/76 season), who doubled the lead over Sporting (0-2). In the following minute, at  89’, Nené completed his brace and sealed the result (0-3), that gave Benfica the 22nd national title.

Tamagnini Nené was the protagonist of the match with which Benfica sealed the 1975/76 title, by scoring two goals.

The legend of Benfica, who played at the Club between 1968/69 and 1985/86, is one of the unavoidable faces of the Mystic.
