Luís Filipe Vieira: “Even trailing, we shouted Benfica's name…”

At the end of the interview granted, this Thursday, to BTV, the president of Benfica, Luís Filipe Vieira left the Benfiquistas a message of union.

I grateful to all for trusting me and I'm aware that 100 years from now, people will talk about me. I want to tell people that it is very important not to have a culture of trying to destroy ourselves, a culture of suicide. With a not so good result, we call everything into question. We have a path together, that was only possible because we were all together saving the club and bringing Benfica to the top. It is a reference in world football, the Benfica fans want the club to grow more.

We cannot always win, we want but we can't. In the not so good moments, we have the example of Manchester where, even trailing, we all shouted Benfica's name. It is in those stages that we must unite. If we embody that, we will be unstoppable. In the good moments, we don't need back-patting, when there is something less positive, it seems all has fallen.  In this new board of Benfica, this new trajectory, they must understand the we will have young players that will need their support. Help us in the not so good moments, because it is the moment for all of us to dream that it will be possible to win the Champions League or a European competition.
