The vote took place during five days on the Club’s Official Website. The Benfiquistas responded to the challenge issued within the 15th Anniversary of Estádio da Luz and they elected the best eleven out of a vast batch of footballers, gathered according to very specific requirements and alluding to the celebration.

Due to the fact that many players have worn the Sacred Mantle, there were two key requirements: there were only up for vote players who have carried out a minimum of 15 official matches in this Stadium and have been at least 1015 minutes on the pitch.

The vote, that took place between October 25 and 29, was fierce and well-balanced in some cases, with a high participation rate (more than 12 thousand voters). A goalkeeper, two fullbacks, two center-backs, three midfielders, and three forwards, here is the chosen eleven: Ederson; Nélson Semedo, Luisão, David Luiz and Grimaldo; Matic, Rui Costa, and Aimar; Jonas, Cardozo and Di María.

A heartfelt tribute to José Augusto!

Two-time European champion, synonymous with the Sport Lisboa e Benfica mystique, José Augusto was honored on Sunday, April 13, the day of his 88th birthday. During half-time of the Benfica-Arouca match, on matchday 29 of the Liga Betclic, he was applauded by the Benfiquistas and thanked for the gesture from the Presidential Tribune. There, in the box, in the presence of President Rui Costa, among José Augusto's friends and family, Happy Birthday was sung to one of the undeniable names in the history of the Glorioso.

The evening of April 14, Sunday, was marked by another beautiful and emotional moment. In the presidential box at the Estádio da Luz, at half-time of the Benfica-Moreirense match of round 29 of the Liga Betclic, two-time European champion José Augusto was honored as part of his 87th birthday, which he celebrated on Saturday. Congratulations, two-time champion!
