Vitória de Guimarães, a club from the Portuguese top flight, is the opponent of SL Benfica, in the quarter-finals of the Portuguese Cup, has dictated the draw held this Friday at the Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras.

In the next round of the competition – after seeing off Sertanense (0-3), Arouca (2-1) and Montalegre (0-1) –, scheduled for January 15, 16 and 17, the team coached by Rui Vitória will travel to Guimarães to face Vitória de Guimarães, who has eliminated Valenciano (0-7), U. Madeira (0-2) and Boavista (0-1).

In the same draw was also defined the pairings of the two-legged semi-finals (February 6 and April 3): the winner of the Vitória SC-SL Benfica match plays the first leg at home with the winner of the Feirense-Sporting match; the winner of the Leixões-FC Porto match plays at home in the first leg against the winner of the Desp. Aves-SC Braga match.

The final of the Portuguese Cup is scheduled for May in Jamor.

"It will be a great match"

Tiago Pinto, general director for the professional football of Benfica, was the Reds' representative in the draw.

“Surely it will be a great match. Three days later we will play against in Guimarães [against Vitória SC]. Benfica has the objective of winning the Portuguese Cup and to for that to happen, it has to beat V. Guimarães”, he claimed.
