This Thursday, the emergency group formed by the President of the FPF to monitor the impact of the Covid-19 virus has decided to suspend, "as of March 13 and for an undefined period", the national football and futsal competitions organized by that entity. The measure is replicated by Liga Portugal, which, in a statement, made official the suspension of the Liga NOS and LigaPro (II Tier).
"Given the increasing limitation of access to sports facilities and the need for the whole population to follow effective hygiene measures and respiratory etiquette it was decided to suspend the national football and futsal competitions organized by the Portuguese Football Federation. The measure is applied as of March 13 and is applicable for an indefinite period", announced the Portuguese Football Federation in a note on its official website.
Liga Portugal, then, also used its official website to officially announce the suspension of the Liga NOS and LigaPro national championships " for an indefinite period".
"The Liga Portugal's decision was taken after a meeting between the body's Executive Board and AMEF and "Comissão Permanente de Calendários", which was accompanied by the respective club doctors and which led to further measures", specified the body that manages the professional championships.
Thus, Liga Portugal decided the following:
- Immediate suspension of professional football competitions of the Liga NOS and LigaPro for an indefinite period;
- Meetings of the "Comissão Permanente de Calendário", every three days, to take stock of the evolution of the pandemic and the concrete measures to be adopted.
This meeting also resulted in the "recommendation for the immediate suspension of the training sessions (...) and for all professional football operators to adopt conduct of social restraint, so that normal sporting activity can be resumed as soon as possible".
