João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista, Benfica's canoeists that integrate, together with Emanuel Silva and David Varela, the Portuguese K4 500-meter team, ensured their presence in the semi-finals of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

The kayak of the two Benfiquistas came 4th in the quarterfinals at Sea Forest Waterways, in a race in which six of the seven boats present qualified.  Hungary, with 1.24,325 minutes, won, followed by Belarus and China.

The semi-finals are scheduled for Saturday, starting at 10:21 am local time (2:21 am in Continental Portugal) and the final will be at 12:37 pm (4:37 am in Continental Portugal).
