Fernando Pimenta and João Duarte
The day before Fernando Pimenta had already left his mark with the gold medal in K1 1000 meters, this Sunday the canoeist from Ponte de Lima, who defends the colors of Benfica, won another gold medal in K2 1000 meters, in a boat where João Duarte, recently signed by Glorioso, rowed and won his first international medal as a senior.
But Fernando Pimenta showed himself again at a great level in the last race of the competition, specifically in K1 5000 meters, where he was 87 hundredths of a second (20:34.30 minutes) from achieving another gold medal, but still got the silver medal, leaving the first place on the podium to the Danish Thorbjorn Rask, with a time of 20:33.43 minutes.
In that final, we highlight the excellent performance of João Duarte. The young Benfica canoeist placed 5th, with a time of 21:10.83 minutes.
João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista, also Benfica athletes, won the bronze medal in the K2 500 meters final, recording a time of 1:28.85 minutes.
It should be noted that Teresa Portela, in K1 200 meters, finished in 4th position, with a time of 40.51 seconds, and the podium was won by Slovenians Spela Janic and Anja Orterman (winner with 39.72 seconds), and by Poland's Dominika Putto. The Benfica canoeist won the bronze medal in K1 500 meters this Saturday, May 21.
