The eagles lead the league with four wins in four matches and the vizelenses come from two consecutive draws. It will be the 7th clash between both teams.
01 September 2022, 12h01
The win against Paços de Ferreira (3-2) put Benfica on top of the table with four wins in four games, the only 100% successful team in the league. Arouca (4-0), Casa Pia (0-1) and Boavista (0-3) were the other opponents beaten by Roger Schmidt’s team.
Vizela, 12th positioned, led by Álvaro Pacheco, started the competition with an away win against Rio Ave (0-1). At home, against FC Porto (0-1) the only loss so far, followed by two draws, in Chaves (1-1) and home against Gil Vicente (2-2).
Tactically, Vizela usually use the 4x3x3 and in the last home game against Gil Vicente, Vizela presented the following XI: Buntic, Tomás Silva, Bruno Wilson, Anderson, Kiki Afonso, Guzzo, Samu, Diego Rosa, Kiko Bondoso, Nuno Moreira and Zohi.
The squad stability is one of Vizela’s strength, signing only seven new players: Luiz Filipe (B SAD), Matheus Pereira (Cruzeiro), Buntic (Ingolstadt), Carlos Isaac (Alavés), Osmajic (Cádiz), Diego Rosa (Manchester City) and Marcelo Vilela (Montalegre).
Kouao, Cassiano, Pedro Silva, Charles, Ofori, Marcos Paulo, João Pais and Ivo Gonçalves left the team.
PREVIOUS CLASHES
Benfica and Vizela already locked horns six times before, with five wins and a draw for the eagle, with 15 goals scored (2,5 per game) and only four conceded (0,67 per game).
Nevertheless, only four were played in the Championship: two in 1984/85 (victories by 5-1 at Luz and 1-2 in Vizela) and another two last season, 2021/22 (victory in Vizela by 0-1 and a 1-1 draw at Luz).
