Benfica beat Marítimo (0-3) this Sunday, March 12, on matchday 24 of the Liga Bwin.
12 March 2023, 22h39
Neres and João Mário
The best scoring opportunity for Roger Schmidt's men to take the lead came in the 28th minute. Aursnes was fouled by René Santos in the penalty box, and referee Fábio Veríssimo awarded a penalty. João Mário, from the penalty spot, sent the ball over the crossbar.
At 45'+3', João Mário crossed to Neres, who beat Marcelo Carné with a left-footed shot and scored his 5th goal in this edition of the Liga Bwin (0-1).
Key moments
In the 50th minute, João Mário's redemption arrived! Grimaldo crossed from the left, the ball crossed the penalty box without Gonçalo Ramos and an opposing defender touching it, and João Mário, at the far post, shot into the empty net, making it 0-2.
In the 57th minute, Benfica's fast attack on the left, Neres opened for Aursnes, who passed to Grimaldo in the box. The latter, with a back heel, assisted Neres, who, with his right foot, shot for the 0-3!
Benfica left Madeira with three more points, the 6th win in a row in the Championship, where it has reached the mark of 61 goals (the best attack, as well as the best defense with 13 goals conceded), maintaining the eight-point lead over the second place in the competition, which it leads with 65 points.
In the next round, MD 25, Benfica hosts Vitória SC, in a match scheduled for Saturday, March 18, at 6 pm at Estádio da Luz.
