Women's football
Média versátil brasileira de 27 anos vinculou-se ao SL Benfica até 2025.
05 July 2023, 10h10
"I am very happy and excited to sign a contract with a club of Benfica's greatness. It makes any player very happy. I feel honored. I'm very happy and committed, and I can't wait to defend Benfica's colors", she claimed.
"It's a responsibility I can carry. If I've been given this opportunity, it's because I've shown that I can do it. I hope that over the seasons I can show that with all my strength and commitment. I'm a player who loves challenges, I think that's what makes me a strong player."
"Benfica wants all the titles, and it is this ambition that drives us and that made me want to come to Benfica"
Laís Araújo
At 27 years old, Lais Araújo already has a vast CV. She started her professional career at São Francisco do Conde, in Bahia, where she is from, and moved to the USA in 2014, having represented the university teams of ASA College NY and the Florida Gators, with a short stint with Sport Club do Recife in between.
In 2019, she moved to Europe, more precisely to Norway, and played for Arna-Bjørnar for a year. Next, she experienced another continent by signing for Adelaide United, of Australia. The 2020/21 season was shared by Apollon Limassol, from Cyprus, and Madrid CFF, from Spain, until she landed in Portugal, in 2021, to play at FC Famalicão, an emblem that he defended in the last two seasons.
"Benfica wants all the titles, it's that ambition that drives us and that made me want to come to Benfica. I am an ambitious player, I want to add all my potential and grow with Benfica. I want to have great seasons and make history in the Champions League. I hope that, with my quality, ability, commitment and fighting spirit, I can help Benfica become champions once again", claimed the versatile.
Lais Araújo also left a message to Benfiquistas: "I am very happy to be here with you. I have been following all the support you have been giving, and I can't wait to see you all in the stadium and make history with you."
