Workman, eloquent and diligent
A management defined by the President’s attitude, Manuel da Conceição Afonso, humble linotyper workman at Imprensa Nacional, but with great objectives, which take him into an unmistakable gallery.
Typographer of easy word, played several roles during three seasons, being a president in three different periods. In the first one, an unique Portuguese Bi-championship was won (1930 and 1931), in 1932/33 the Lisbon champion title. In 1932, the handball has begun, to play with eleven athletes. In the second mandate, the first national “tri” (1936-1938) was achieved. In the last one, in order to solve the stadium problem, one of his most important appearances was the visit, in 1946, to the Public Services Minister, where the returning to Benfica was decided.
