GD Chaves' resistance to Jonas' efficiency ended on January 20th. Estádio da Luz and nearly 60 thousand fans in the stands witnessed the first celebration of the Benfica forward against the team from Trás-os-Montes.
The bingo in the card was reached with a brace. The Brazilian quenched his thirst at 13’. Jonas scored with a powerful shot after a pass from Krovinovic.
Benfica started the match at full speed, with a high pressure that blocked the first build-up area of Luís Castro's men. A few minutes later, at 19’, a good collective play, with Salvio making a late cross for Pistolas' accurate strike.
With this brace, Jonas reached the 23 goals in this Liga NOS and cemented the lead of the top scorers, now four goals ahead of the second placed. The number 10 jersey has not stopped scoring in 2018 yet – he scored in every match of the new year em – and is in an eight-match goal scoring streak in all competitions.
At Benfica since 2014/15, he has already scored 111 goals in all competitions, divided as follows: 88 in Liga NOS, 9 in the Portuguese Cup, 10 in the League Cup, 2 in the Super Cup and 2 in the Champions League. By season, he scored 31 in the debut campaign; 36 in 2015/16; 18 in 2016/17 and has already bagged 26 in the current season.
