More than seven years later, the two teams face again in Algarve in a match of the most important National competition, at 20:30 pm on Saturday, in Gameweek 22 of the Liga NOS. The record is 12 triumphs for the Reds and two draws.

The record of these duels tells us that Benfica visited the team from Algarve 14 times for the most important national competition. The balance is highly favorable to the eagles: 12 victories and two draws. In total, the reds scored 29 goals and conceded only six.
The first clash between the two teams at Algarve happened on December 11th, 1976. Benfica beat Portimonense by 1-2 (with two goals from Vítor Baptista, at 64’ and at 90’), in a match from Gameweek 10 of the National Championship.
In the set of matches played by the two teams in the competition in Portimão, a special mention for the match from Matchweek 20 of the 1980/81 season, in which Benfica won by 1-5, the biggest result in the visits to Portimonense. Nené (23’ and 28’), Reinaldo (34’), Caíca (62’ o.g.) and Carlos Manuel (77’) scored the goals that sealed win from the Reds.
The last visit from Benfica, in this competition, happened on October 24th, 2010. The Eagles won by 0-1, in Matchweek 8 of I Liga, in a match refereed by Hugo Miguel and held at Estádio Algarve. The only goal of the match was scored by Javi García, who at 49’, after a free kick taken by Carlos Martins, put the ball in the back of the net with a header
