17th António Leitão Benfica Race was “another great success”

“We saw a lot of celebration, joy, Benfiquismo and glory, inside and outside this stadium,” Ana Oliveira, Benfica's athletics coordinator, told Benfica, about the 17th António Leitão Benfica Race, which she considered ‘another great success’ and which took place on Sunday, March 23.  With Benfica's André Pereira and Paula Martins winning their respective races, and with an impressive 12,500 participants, the race was also marked by a fundraiser for the Pais21 association. On Monday, December 9, judoka Telma Monteiro announced the end of her sporting career.  It's been “24 very special years”, 17 of which have been spent with an eagle on her chest and, at the time of his farewell, there is “eternal gratitude”. “I'm ending my career exactly as I wanted to, with the feeling that I've given everything I had to give, and that everything was as it should be,” she said. Thank you, Telma!

COP distinguishes Benfica athletes

Benfica athletes Telma Monteiro and Pedro Pichardo were honored by the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP) on Thursday, November 14, at the 2024 Olympic Celebration, a gala held at SUD Hall Lisbon. Judoka Telma Monteiro was awarded the Prestige Award, which honors “sports agents for the excellence, notability and prestige of their careers”. Pedro Pichardo, triple jump athlete and Paris 2024 silver medalist, received the Sports Excellence Award, which is given to “Olympic medalists, World or European Champions”. Domingos Almeida Lima, Benfica's vice-president, represented the club at the ceremony.

An unforgettable Children's Day

This Tuesday, May 27, the Benfica Foundation and Sport Lisboa e Benfica marked World Children's Day with the participation of more than 1,500 young people.  Between the Estádio da Luz pitch and the pavilions, there were fun, educational and sporting activities, with the contribution of the various sports and the partners of the Club and the Foundation. Lively, with everything designed to stimulate the children and provide them with different experiences, this was a “very special” moment, as Jorge Miranda, director of the Foundation, told BTV. "We couldn't miss the opportunity to have an unforgettable day," he said. Representing the Almeirim Karting Circuit, Tiago Evaristo stressed the importance of “road education”. Solidarity Christmas at Estádio da Luz

On Tuesday, December 24, the European Champions Hall at the Estádio da Luz was decorated to host a Christmas dinner organized by the Benfica Foundation and Casas Benfica, in partnership with Santa Casa da Misericórdia and the Comunidade Vida e Paz. A moment of communion and fraternization - attended by President Rui Costa and the Foundation's CEO, Carlos Moia - which allowed those present to celebrate the festive season together with the Benfiquista Family! In other parts of the country and beyond, where there are Casas Benfica, the initiative's intention to become more and more widespread was also evident this year.
